The Kebbi State Police Command has apprehended four suspects accused of vandalising and stealing a transformer belonging to Government Girls Secondary School, Dakingari, in Bunza Local Government Area.

Spokesperson of the Command, CSP Shafi’u Abubakar, made this known while parading the suspects at the Command headquarters in Birnin Kebbi.

He said the incident occurred on September 10 after the Bunza Divisional Police Officer (DPO) received intelligence that a group of hoodlums had broken into the school premises along Dakingari road.

Acting on the tip-off, the DPO led a joint team of police officers and vigilantes to the scene, where the suspects were caught in the act of dismantling the transformer with chainsaws and other tools.

They had earlier overpowered and tied up the school’s watchman, identified as Muhammad Danda Masa Nasharu.

Two suspects, Sanusi Muhammad and Ibrahim Lawal from Sokoto State, were arrested at the scene, while a black Toyota Corolla with registration number KNT-359-SN (Niger State) was recovered.

Subsequent investigations by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) led to the arrest of two others, Tasi’u Abubakar and Tasi’u Abdullahi, both from Zamfara State.

Recovered items included the vandalised armoured cables and equipment used in the operation. CSP Abubakar confirmed that investigations are ongoing and that the suspects will be charged to court.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Bello M. Sani, praised the Bunza DPO and vigilante group for their swift intervention and urged continued cooperation between security agencies and local communities in tackling crime across the state.
