Police Recover Car, Arrest Deputy Governor’s Driver

The Kano State Police Command has recovered the Toyota Hilux vehicle stolen from the convoy of the state’s deputy governor after a swift operation that led to the arrest of a key suspect.

The theft occurred in the early hours of Monday when an individual sneaked into the Government House through Gate 4 and drove off with the vehicle assigned to the Deputy Governor’s Office.

CCTV footage reportedly captured the intruder’s movement from entry to exit, with no resistance from security personnel on duty.

Police investigations later traced the vehicle and recovered it in the early hours of Wednesday.

The command confirmed that the suspect in custody is a permanent and pensionable driver attached to the Deputy Governor’s Office, identified as Shafiu, popularly known as “Sharp-Sharp.”

A police report indicated that the recovery followed a coordinated operation involving multiple security agencies, while the suspect is currently assisting investigators with further inquiries.

Reacting to the development, the Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, Ibrahim Shu’aibu, described the incident as “a clear breach of trust by the arrested driver.”

“The Deputy Governor’s Office commends the prompt response and professionalism displayed by the Police and other security agencies involved in the recovery effort,” the statement read.

Security sources said the section of the Government House where the deputy governor’s office is located is usually fully guarded only during official hours or when the deputy governor is present, a lapse believed to have been exploited by the suspect.
