VARCE Girls’ Learning Hub Graduates First Cohort with Record-Breaking Results

Value Re-Orientation for Community Enhancement (VARCE), a nonprofit based in Osogbo, has announced the graduation of the first cohort of students from its Girls’ Learning Hub, with an outstanding performance in the recently concluded West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
Of the 96 girls who completed the programme, 86 earned a minimum of nine credits including Mathematics and English Language, while 89 recorded at least six distinctions.
The distinction rates were particularly impressive across key subjects, including Chemistry (100%), Agricultural Science (99%), Civic Education (99%), Biology (95%), and Economics (92%).
Executive Director of VARCE, Mr. Ademola Adebisi at a press briefing described the achievement as life-changing.
Mr. Adebisi explained that, “What makes this feat remarkable is that many of the girls could barely read or write when they joined the hub in 2023”.

He said in addition to academic success, the graduates acquired digital skills in coding, app development, and web design, preparing them for future careers in technology and innovation.

“Our girls are not just passing examinations, they are rewriting their future. From struggling with basic literacy to excelling with multiple distinctions and now building apps and websites, this is the power of opportunity. At VARCE Girls’ Learning Hub, we are raising a generation of leaders, innovators, and change-makers.”
The initiative, supported by the United Nations International School (UNIS) through the VARCE-UNIS Pathways Project, provided holistic support for the girls. These included digital literacy training, a school clinic, mentorship, free lunch, transportation, and a crèche for teenage mothers, ensuring that no student was left behind.
The graduation ceremony, themed “Rewriting Her Stories: From Lost Hopes to Limitless Possibilities,” is scheduled to hold between August 22 and 28, 2025. Events include a sign-out and reflection session, panel discussion, academic tour, movie outing, and a grand valedictory service with awards.
Community leaders, parents, education stakeholders, and development partners are expected to attend the ceremonies, which will showcase the remarkable achievements of the students and emphasize the importance of continued investment in girl-child education and empowerment.
