Police Command to Enforce Tinted Glass Permit Nationwide from October 2

The Jigawa State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has announced that enforcement of tinted glass permits across the country will officially commence on October 2, 2025. The directive was made public in a statement released on Saturday in Dutse, the state capital, by the Command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Superintendent of Police (SP) Shi’isu Adam.
According to the announcement, motorists who own vehicles with tinted windows are expected to complete their registration and obtain valid permits through the official police portal, before the enforcement deadline. The statement emphasized that this measure is designed to enhance accountability, promote transparency, and improve road safety nationwide.
SP Adam explained that the application process is entirely digital to reduce loopholes and ensure easy accessibility for applicants. Interested vehicle owners are to create an account on the portal using their National Identification Number (NIN), Bank Verification Number (BVN), or Tax Identification Number (TIN). Once registered, applicants must verify their accounts via email, log in to the platform, and select the Tinted Glass Permit option.
From there, they will be required to provide vehicle details and upload supporting documents before confirming all information. SP Adam stressed the importance of accuracy during this stage, warning that any errors may delay processing or result in unsuccessful applications. Payment instructions are also available on the portal, and applicants are encouraged to follow them carefully.

Tinted Glass Enforcement and Transparency
As part of the enforcement process, applicants will undergo a physical vehicle inspection and biometric fingerprint capturing at designated Nigeria Police Force Intelligence Departments. For residents of Jigawa State, SP Adam disclosed that the biometric capturing exercise would be carried out free of charge at the State Intelligence Department located at the Police Headquarters in Dutse.
He noted that this arrangement demonstrates the Police Command’s commitment to fairness, accessibility, and transparency, ensuring that residents are not financially burdened by the procedure. Furthermore, he issued a strong warning against individuals who may attempt to exploit unsuspecting motorists by offering unauthorized permit services.
“This initiative promotes transparency and ensures road safety for all,” SP Adam declared. He reassured the public that the enforcement is not aimed at creating hardship but at fostering a safer driving environment and preventing misuse of tinted glasses for illegal activities.
The PPRO also highlighted that full cooperation from the public would be crucial in achieving smooth enforcement. By complying with the directive, motorists protect themselves legally while contributing to national security efforts. He added that illegal window tinting often provides cover for criminal activities, which the police are determined to curb through systematic monitoring and regulation.
Nationwide Compliance and Public Cooperation
The upcoming enforcement has significant implications for motorists nationwide. While tinted glass is often used for privacy and protection against harsh sunlight, improper or unauthorized usage has raised security concerns in recent years. Authorities believe that implementing a structured permit system will strike a balance between personal convenience and public safety.
SP Adam further advised motorists who intend to apply for permits not to delay the process. “Those planning to apply are advised to begin registration promptly ahead of the enforcement date,” he said. Early application, he explained, would allow sufficient time for verification, inspection, and biometric capturing, thereby reducing last-minute congestion and delays.
The Nigeria Police Force has reiterated its commitment to ensuring the smooth rollout of the initiative. By adopting a digital-first approach through the possap.gov.ng portal, the police aim to limit human interference in the permit process, thereby reducing corruption, delays, and opportunities for exploitation.
The public is also encouraged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious attempts by unauthorized individuals or groups claiming to offer expedited permit processing. The police emphasized that only applications made through the official channel will be recognized as valid.
Road Safety and Security Outlook
The introduction of nationwide tinted glass permit enforcement is seen as a step toward broader reforms in road safety and security management. By ensuring that all tinted vehicles are properly registered and accounted for, the police can better monitor road usage while deterring criminal elements who may attempt to hide behind unauthorized tinting.
In Jigawa State, where the announcement was made, public reception is expected to be mixed. While some motorists may view the process as an added burden, others see it as a positive development that could reduce lawlessness on the roads. SP Adam, however, reassured residents that the command is determined to manage the rollout responsibly and transparently.
The Police Command’s call for compliance underscores a wider vision of strengthening public trust in law enforcement institutions. By implementing clear processes, offering free biometric capturing locally, and using technology to drive applications, the police hope to demonstrate fairness while fostering stronger collaboration with the public.
As the enforcement date draws closer, motorists across Nigeria are urged to take proactive steps to avoid penalties. The emphasis remains clear: proper registration, accurate documentation, and strict adherence to the law are non-negotiable.
With the October 2 deadline firmly in sight, the Nigeria Police Force has reaffirmed its position that national security and road safety must take precedence, and tinted glass permits will now be a legal requirement, not an option.
