The Jigawa State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has announced that enforcement of tinted glass permits across the country will officially commence on October 2, 2025. The directive was made public in a statement released on Saturday in Dutse, the state capital, by the Command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Superintendent of Police (SP) Shi’isu Adam.

According to the announcement, motorists who own vehicles with tinted windows are expected to complete their registration and obtain valid permits through the official police portal,  before the enforcement deadline. The statement emphasized that this measure is designed to enhance accountability, promote transparency, and improve road safety nationwide.

SP Adam explained that the application process is entirely digital to reduce loopholes and ensure easy accessibility for applicants. Interested vehicle owners are to create an account on the portal using their National Identification Number (NIN), Bank Verification Number (BVN), or Tax Identification Number (TIN). Once registered, applicants must verify their accounts via email, log in to the platform, and select the Tinted Glass Permit option.

From there, they will be required to provide vehicle details and upload supporting documents before confirming all information. SP Adam stressed the importance of accuracy during this stage, warning that any errors may delay processing or result in unsuccessful applications. Payment instructions are also available on the portal, and applicants are encouraged to follow them carefully.

As part of the enforcement process, applicants will undergo a physical vehicle inspection and biometric fingerprint capturing at designated Nigeria Police Force Intelligence Departments. For residents of Jigawa State, SP Adam disclosed that the biometric capturing exercise would be carried out free of charge at the State Intelligence Department located at the Police Headquarters in Dutse.

He noted that this arrangement demonstrates the Police Command’s commitment to fairness, accessibility, and transparency, ensuring that residents are not financially burdened by the procedure. Furthermore, he issued a strong warning against individuals who may attempt to exploit unsuspecting motorists by offering unauthorized permit services.

“This initiative promotes transparency and ensures road safety for all,” SP Adam declared. He reassured the public that the enforcement is not aimed at creating hardship but at fostering a safer driving environment and preventing misuse of tinted glasses for illegal activities.

The PPRO also highlighted that full cooperation from the public would be crucial in achieving smooth enforcement.
