PDPThe National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has disowned the purported congress said to have been held recently in Cross River State.

The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, announced the position at a press conference on Tuesday in Abuja, stressing that the party leadership was not aware of any such congress since the exercise had earlier been postponed.

“For emphasis, there was no congress in Cross River by the PDP as the leadership of the party had earlier announced the postponement of congresses in Cross River, Plateau, and Kebbi States,” Ologunagba said.

He explained that the NWC only recognized congresses conducted in Lagos, Oyo, Ondo, Edo, Adamawa, Borno, Niger, and Kogi States, with that of Ekiti held on Monday.

In line with the PDP Constitution, he said, the NWC would review outcomes of the recognized congresses.

Ologunagba further disclosed that since the tenure of party executives in Cross River and Plateau States had expired, caretaker committees would be constituted to run their affairs.

For Cross River, he noted, the South-South Zonal Caretaker Committee had already been directed to oversee the chapter.

Describing the reported exercise in Cross River as “a carnival and hallucination,” the spokesman insisted that PDP congresses must follow due process, including the constitution of an electoral panel by the NWC.

“What happened, if at all it happened, which I am not aware of, might just be a pre-Christmas carnival,” he said.
