2Baba Marks 25 Years in Music with Emotional Open Letter to Fans and Industry Colleagues
Nigerian music legend, Innocent Ujah Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, has marked his 25th anniversary in the Nigerian music industry with an emotional open letter reflecting on his journey, triumphs, challenges, and gratitude to fans and colleagues who stood by him through the years.
In the heartfelt message shared across his social media platforms, the multiple award-winning singer expressed deep appreciation for the love and support he has received since his early days as part of the iconic group Plantashun Boiz, to his solo career that produced timeless hits and global recognition.
“25 years of music, love, pain, joy, friendship, and growth. I no fit lie, it has been one hell of a ride, but I’m grateful for every second of it,” 2Baba wrote. “I came into this game with dreams in my eyes and music in my soul. I’ve made mistakes, I’ve learned lessons, but I never stopped believing in the power of good music and good people.”
A Journey Rooted in Passion and Persistence
2Baba’s journey into the music world began in the late 1990s as a member of Plantashun Boiz, alongside Blackface and Faze. The trio revolutionized Nigerian R&B and pop music with their harmonies, relatable lyrics, and style that appealed to young audiences across Africa.
After the group’s split in the early 2000s, 2Baba launched his solo career with the release of Face2Face in 2004 — a debut album that became an instant classic. The hit single “African Queen” not only defined his artistry but also placed Nigerian music on the global stage. The song became a continental anthem, earning him awards and solidifying his status as one of Africa’s greatest musical exports.
Over the years, 2Baba followed up with critically acclaimed albums like Grass 2 Grace (2006), The Unstoppable (2010), and Warriors (2020). His songs such as “If Love Is a Crime,” “For Instance,” “Only Me,” “Implication,” and “Opo” have continued to inspire generations of artists and fans.
“From ‘African Queen’ to ‘Amaka,’ every song is a piece of my soul and story,” he said in his letter. “Music gave me a voice when I had none, and my fans gave me strength when the world doubted me. I will never take that for granted.”
Tribute to Fans and Industry Supporters
In his open letter, 2Baba paid special tribute to his fans, whom he described as the “real MVPs” of his 25-year career. He acknowledged their unwavering loyalty through his highs and lows, controversies, and personal struggles.
“To every fan that ever danced to my song, streamed my music, attended my show, defended my name, or prayed for me — una too much! Na una be my real African Queens and Kings. Without una, there is no 2Baba.”
He also extended appreciation to his colleagues in the Nigerian music industry — both past and present — for their collaboration, competition, and creativity that continue to drive Afrobeats to global dominance.
“To all my brothers and sisters in this game, una inspire me. From the legends before me to the new stars carrying the torch today, I dey salute all of una. This movement na for all of us, and it’s bigger than any one person.”
Reflecting on Challenges and Growth
2Baba’s journey has not been without its challenges. He has faced public controversies, personal losses, and industry battles, yet his resilience has kept him relevant and respected.
In the letter, he reflected on moments of doubt and the lessons they taught him. “I’ve been misunderstood, criticized, and sometimes even written off. But every setback has been a setup for a comeback. I’ve learned that grace, humility, and consistency will always speak louder than noise.”
He urged young artists to stay true to themselves and never lose sight of their purpose. “Fame go fade, trends go change, but originality and integrity no dey go out of style.”
Looking Ahead: The Next Chapter
As he celebrates this major milestone, 2Baba announced plans to release a special anniversary project, including a documentary and concert series that will chronicle his life and legacy in the music industry.

He also hinted at mentoring emerging talents, saying, “The next 25 years na for giving back — to the fans, to the culture, and to the next generation. I want to help more African voices be heard around the world.”
