The All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly refuted accusations from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) alleging a covert plot by the ruling party to destabilise its structure. In a sharp and unambiguous statement released on Tuesday, Felix Morka, the APC National Publicity Secretary, dismissed the claims as entirely fabricated and symptomatic of the ADC’s own internal disarray.

The ADC had on Monday claimed that unnamed federal officials within the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had been involved in coercive tactics aimed at influencing its state chairmen in the north-east and north-west regions. According to the opposition party, these efforts took place during what it described as a “secret meeting,” raising alarm about what it called interference in its internal affairs.

“Haunted by Its Own Shadow” – APC Counters Allegations

Responding to these claims, Felix Morka accused the ADC of indulging in “lies and deception” as a last-ditch effort to remain politically relevant. He argued that the opposition party presented no credible evidence and instead relied on what he termed “nonsensical intelligence” to spin a fictitious story.

“Clearly, there was no such meeting, and certainly, no one could have been coerced or intimidated at a meeting that never was,” Morka said emphatically.

He went further to describe the ADC’s allegations as a “pre-emptive excuse” to justify what he called the party’s inevitable downfall. Drawing a metaphor, Morka likened the ADC to “Humpty Dumpty, whose great fall could not be put back together again.”

“ADC Is Collapsing From Within”

According to Morka, the APC has neither the interest nor the need to engineer disunity within the ADC. He asserted that the party’s internal struggles stem from a leadership crisis and the inability to maintain internal cohesion.

“The ADC needs no help from our great party to unravel,” Morka declared. “Its leaders have hijacked the party structure in a Gestapo-like fashion and lack the competence to manage even the smallest of organisational affairs.”

The APC spokesperson painted a picture of a fractured opposition, suggesting that the ADC had become a political refuge for “failed and restless presidential contenders” who, having exhausted other platforms, found temporary solace within the party’s fold.

“What good can possibly come out of a coalition of our country’s most inept politicians and architects of misrule, corruption, poverty, and underdevelopment?” Morka asked rhetorically, aiming to discredit the opposition coalition that ADC has aligned with.

Defending the Tinubu Administration’s Record

Beyond defending the APC, Morka took the opportunity to laud President Tinubu’s administration, which he credited with overseeing “economic reconstruction and wholesome transformation.” He insisted that Tinubu’s performance in office was “incomparable and unassailable,” suggesting that the president’s achievements were self-evident to Nigerians.

“The ADC and its leaders may be convinced of their ability to lie their way to presidential victory, but they have a highly intelligent and discerning Nigerian electorate to contend with,” Morka added, throwing a jab at the opposition’s electoral ambitions ahead of the 2027 polls.

He emphasized that while opposition parties engage in what he described as “self-inflicted confusion,” the ruling party remained focused on its development agenda.

“While the opposition wallows in self-inflicted confusion, the Tinubu administration and our great party remain undistracted and will continue to build a virile and vibrant country for this and future generations of Nigerians,” he concluded.

Broader Political Context

This war of words comes amid growing political realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections. On Sunday, during an interview on Arise TV, Morka reiterated that the APC is not threatened by the emergence of a new opposition coalition seeking to challenge President Tinubu’s re-election bid.

During the same interview, Morka took aim at leaders of the ADC and other coalition partners, accusing them of contributing to the economic stagnation and poverty that plagued Nigeria in past administrations. He portrayed the opposition’s current moves as desperate attempts to regain lost credibility rather than presenting a viable alternative for governance.

The latest exchange underscores a deepening rivalry between the ruling APC and opposition parties as Nigeria enters a new electoral cycle. While the ADC alleges interference and manipulation, the APC insists the opposition’s woes are self-inflicted and unrelated to any external plot. As the political atmosphere heats up ahead of 2027, both sides are likely to intensify their rhetoric—but for now, the APC appears confident in its grip on power and the public narrative.
