Experts Urge Youth To Build Positive Digital Footprints, Not Promote Indecency

Experts have called on Nigerian youths and adolescents to ensure their presence in the digital space reflects value, skills, and positive contributions rather than nudity or actions that could harm their future.

They made the call at the opening of the pre-conference event of the 4th Nigeria Conference on Adolescent and Youth Health Development, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

President of the Society for Adolescent and Young People’s Health in Nigeria (SAYPHIN), Professor Adesegun Fatusi, urged young people to embrace digital responsibility.

“Your digital presence must not be about nakedness or unruly behaviour, but about quality, values, and capabilities,” he said, encouraging participants to maximise the opportunity to network and build meaningful relationships during the conference.

Panel sessions at the event focused on how youths can build strong online reputations by creating digital identities that enhance, rather than damage, their prospects.

Major highlight of the day was a pitching competition where participants showcased innovative mobile applications designed to address challenges such as mental health, obesity, and poor nutrition.

The 2025 conference themed “The Evolving Adolescent and Youth in a Digital Age: Building Resilient Young People in a Changing World” had in attendance the representative of the Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Dr. Obinna Ebirim and representatives from development partners including UNICEF and UNFPA, as well as NGOs, and youth delegates from all six geo-political zones of Nigeria.
