A New Era for Rivers State University
The appointment of Professor Zeb-Obipi signals a new chapter for RSU, as stakeholders anticipate his leadership in advancing the university’s academic and infrastructural development. His previous experience in ICT and management is expected to bring progressive changes to the institution, particularly in digital education and administration.
Meanwhile, the outgoing Vice-Chancellor, Professor Nlerum Okogbule, has expressed gratitude to Governor Fubara for allowing him to complete his tenure without political interference. Speaking at a special end-of-tenure lecture titled “Starting Strong and Finishing Well”, held in his honor at the university’s Senate Chamber, Okogbule reflected on his five-year tenure with appreciation.
Outgoing VC Commends Political Stability
Professor Okogbule acknowledged the support of both former Governor Nyesom Wike, who appointed him, and Governor Fubara, who allowed him to serve his full term despite political transitions. He noted that such continuity in leadership is rare in Nigerian politics.
“The governor did not allow political sentiments to influence him to act differently. I therefore owe him a debt of gratitude for this rare action,” Okogbule remarked.
His acknowledgment underscores the stability and administrative continuity under Governor Fubara’s leadership, which has been recognized as an uncommon trait in Nigerian governance.
As Professor Zeb-Obipi assumes his new position, expectations are high for further advancements in RSU’s academic reputation and institutional growth. The university community eagerly anticipates his vision for research development, student welfare, and technological innovation.
