Olasanmi Ogunkanmi, 58, a pastor and Lagos State Magistrate, unexpectedly sagged and passed away the night after returning from a three-week holy pilgrimage in Jerusalem, Israel. Before his untimely demise on January 1, 2025, it was learned that late Magistrate Ogunkanmi made his final trip to Jerusalem with the first group of pilgrims from Lagos.
When he was alive, the deceased, who worked at the Ikeja Magistrate Court, was characterized as a “kind, humble and nice fellow” who did an outstanding job at his job. On the reason of death, however, there are differing reports.
Another account claimed that he slept soundly that night and never woke up, despite the fact that it was believed that he abruptly sagged and passed away on that terrible night at his home.
On Friday, January 17, 2025, Bishop Stephen Adegbite, the Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission, or NCPC, visited the widow of the late Ogunkanmi at their home in Ikorodu, Lagos, to offer condolences.
Adegbite conveyed his sincere condolences to the young widow for Magistrate Ogunkanmi’s unexpected and sad death. Adegbite claimed that when he returned on January 1, 2025, he was ecstatic and satisfied, but then God unexpectedly called him home. He encouraged her to trust in God and know that the dead has gone to rest in the arms of his creator.
Adegbite asserts that the death of the late Magistrate Ogunkanmi on the evening after his successful return from a religious pilgrimage in Jerusalem was not an accident. His death is providential because of the incident.
Since your husband enjoyed a happy life, it is more important to consider how well one lives than how long one lives. He hoped that the family may find solace in the Good Lord during this time of loss. Last Monday, the NCPC leader paid a visit to his family’s home in Kado, Abuja, where he offered his condolences to his relatives. Following a Service of Songs on February 6, 2025, the ashes of the late Magistrate Ogunkanmi will be laid to rest in Lagos on February 7, 2025.
