Abuja, Nigeria – Political leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Nigeria’s North Central region have thrown their collective support behind President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s bid for reelection in 2027. This strategic move was officially declared during a high-level meeting held in Abuja on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, where five APC governors and key stakeholders convened to review the administration’s performance and discuss the future of the party.
The gathering, marked by a spirit of unity and political resolve, concluded with a motion moved by Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, endorsing Tinubu for another four-year term. Akume highlighted the president’s “sterling performance” and noted that his leadership has brought tangible development to the North Central region.
“We, members of the APC North Central geopolitical zone…having watched with total satisfaction and admiration the performance of the APC-led government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, have resolved…to endorse him to run for another tenure,” Akume stated. The motion received unanimous support from governors, ministers, lawmakers, and other political leaders present.

Confidence in Leadership Amidst National Challenges
The communique of the meeting, read by Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State, emphasized the group’s “unanimous vote of confidence” in Tinubu’s leadership. Sule praised the president’s courage and foresight in steering Nigeria through economic and security challenges, describing his administration’s reform agenda as “bold and necessary.”
“In furtherance of this conviction, we wholeheartedly endorse President Tinubu to contest for a second term…to consolidate the gains of his reforms,” Sule said. He cited several developmental initiatives in the region—ranging from road rehabilitation and education to agricultural investments and rural electrification—as proof of the administration’s commitment to national equity and growth.
Achievements and Inclusivity Lauded
North Central leaders expressed appreciation for Tinubu’s inclusive governance style, which they say has empowered the region’s sons and daughters with strategic appointments. The formation of the North Central Development Commission, a key demand from the zone in 2024, was described as a major win and a testament to Tinubu’s responsiveness to regional needs.
Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara State, who also serves as Chairman of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), noted that the president’s support for the region is both symbolic and substantial. “Our sons and daughters have been appointed to lead the commission…This is a big win for us,” he remarked.
He further applauded the president for establishing a national forest guard initiative, which is expected to significantly boost local security and environmental protection. “It places local communities at the heart of our national security strategy,” Abdulrazaq noted, urging sustained support for Tinubu and the APC.
Reinforcing Party Unity and Strategic Positioning
National Chairman of the APC, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, underscored the importance of inclusivity, highlighting the appointment of party leaders to various federal boards. Ganduje described these moves as strategic, promoting both internal democracy and broader participation in governance.
He affirmed the party’s readiness for future electoral victories and praised the president’s reform agenda, which includes critical steps toward stabilizing the economy, reviving investor confidence, and restoring public trust.
Also in attendance were a host of federal ministers, including Lateef Fagbemi (Justice), Mohammed Idris (Information), and Prof. Joseph Utsev (Water Resources), along with Deputy Senate Leader Senator Oyelola Yisa Ashiru and other influential figures.
Former governors Yahaya Bello (Kogi), Tanko Almakura (Nasarawa), and Abubakar Sani Bello (Niger), as well as former Deputy Speaker Ahmed Wase, were also present, solidifying the show of unity and alignment within the North Central bloc.
A Unified Vision for 2027 and Beyond
The endorsement sends a strong message of political cohesion in the North Central region and signals Tinubu’s deepening support ahead of the 2027 general elections. The leaders pledged to strengthen grassroots structures, enhance party unity, and champion government policies focused on security, job creation, and sustainable development.
In closing, the group reaffirmed its commitment to the Renewed Hope Agenda and vowed to work closely with President Tinubu and the APC leadership to ensure continued progress, peace, and prosperity in Nigeria.
