Convicted kidnap kingpin Evans, whose real name is Chukwudimeme Onwuamadike, has begged for forgiveness from the Lagos State Government, saying he has changed his ways.

At the Lagos State High Court in Ikeja on Thursday, January 30, 2025, Evans, through his attorney Emefo Etudo, said he has turned from his previous transgressions and is now concentrating on his rehabilitation.

The plea was made in connection with his re-arraignment on an upgraded five-count allegation that bordered on murder, attempted murder, and conspiracy to conduct kidnapping, along with that of his co-defendant, Joseph Emeka. Neither entered a guilty plea.

Evans’ attorney disclosed that his client had approached the Lagos State Government for mercy and a plea deal.

“In this case, we are concentrating on the plea agreement that we have offered the state government. Now my client is a repentant individual. He was a crime-crazed young man, but he has since changed his ways.

He currently attends the National Open University of Nigeria as a 200-level student. “He actually received an A1 on all of his NECO papers while incarcerated because of a Federal Government scholarship,” Etudo said the court.

He added that Evans hopes to use his background to discourage children from committing crimes by taking them on a tour of schools in Lagos to teach them about the negative effects of illegal activity.

Sule Yusuf, the state prosecutor, attested that the plea bargain application had been received and was being considered.

Judge Adenike Coker postponed the case to March 20, 2025, in order to allow for a potential trial.

Etudo told reporters during the court hearing that Evans had experienced a miraculous reformation thanks to the Federal Government and the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG).

“Now, my client has changed. He claimed that the RCCG and the Federal Government, which gave him a scholarship to study and improve himself, were responsible for his metamorphosis.
