Ogun Police Arrest Man For Brutal Assault On Wife

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested one Fatai Quadri for allegedly assaulting his wife, Rukayat Quadri, in an incident that was captured on video and widely circulated on social media.

The attack, which took place on September 15, 2025, in Illese-Ijebu, Ijebu-Ode, drew public outrage after footage showed the woman being beaten during a domestic dispute.

Police spokespersons confirmed that the matter was reported at the Igbeba Divisional Police Headquarters, leading to Quadri’s swift arrest.

Preliminary findings linked the altercation to accusations of infidelity and the suspect’s controversial transfer of a 10-room apartment, jointly built with his wife, to another woman.

The victim is currently receiving treatment, while the suspect remains in custody pending prosecution.

Commissioner of Police, Lanre Ogunlowo, condemned the assault, stressing the command’s zero tolerance for domestic violence.

He urged residents to promptly report similar cases, warning that “silence only empowers perpetrators.”

The incident has renewed calls from rights advocates for stronger safeguards and stricter enforcement against domestic abuse in Nigeria.
