As political momentum gradually builds toward the 2026 governorship election in Osun State, the immediate-past Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Hon. Timothy Owoeye, has called on the All Progressives Congress (APC) to zone its gubernatorial ticket to the Osun West Senatorial District. Speaking at the launch of the Ambo Movement in support of Mr. Bola Oyebamiji, Managing Director of the National Inland Waterways Authority, Owoeye stressed the need for fairness and political equity across the state.

The event, which attracted key stakeholders and party loyalists, marked a significant step in the push for regional balance and representation in Osun’s leadership. Owoeye, known for his articulate stance on governance and regional inclusion, appealed to the APC leadership to heed the call of the people by allowing Osun West a fair chance at leading the state.

Fairness and Balance: Owoeye Makes Case for Osun West

According to the former Speaker, the decision to zone the ticket to the West is more than a political strategy—it is a moral imperative to ensure all zones have equal access to the state’s highest office. “We all know that Osun Central Senatorial District has done it for 16 years, Osun East spent eight years, and it is now the turn of Osun West,” Owoeye stated passionately.

Osun West, comprising local government areas such as Ede North, Ede South, Iwo, Ejigbo, Irewole, and others, remains the least represented in the state’s political leadership since its creation. Although the current governor, Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), hails from Osun West, APC loyalists like Owoeye insist that the party must follow suit in its internal zoning to maintain balance and credibility.

At the center of the Ambo Movement’s unveiling was Bola Oyebamiji, a respected technocrat and public servant with deep roots in Osun West. Owoeye described him as a symbol of hope and competence, and the best candidate to reclaim power for the APC in the upcoming election. “The best choice is Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji. The choice is noble and painstaking,” he declared.

He also commended the resilience and leadership of the immediate past governor and current Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, whose influence, he said, has been instrumental in keeping the party united in the state. “If not for him, what we are doing today may not be possible,” Owoeye said. “There is unity, cohesion, and togetherness within the party, and this is another opportunity for us to raise the consciousness of our people to the need to work in unison.”

Owoeye further emphasized that the APC must act swiftly and wisely in zoning its ticket to avoid internal friction and to strategically position itself for victory in 2026. According to him, ensuring that every senatorial district gets a fair shot at governance is the only way to sustain political harmony and reinforce public confidence in democratic processes.

Dr. Tunde Faleye, founder of the Falex Foundation and initiator of the Ambo Movement, also rallied support for Oyebamiji, highlighting his qualifications and readiness to lead. “He has the capability, competence, and capacity to steer the ship of the state to the promised land,” Faleye said. “We are using this opportunity to let the people know that on our own, we are supporting Oyebamiji to run for governor.”

Faleye further stated that the APC must come together in solidarity if it hopes to wrest power from the PDP. “It is time for every member of our party to work together in wresting power from the incumbent government,” he added.

The emergence of the Ambo Movement not only signals the start of campaign activity in Osun but also ignites critical conversations about equitable representation and zoning in Nigerian politics. As the state edges closer to the 2026 governorship contest, the APC’s decision on zoning could very well determine its chances of reclaiming Osun from the ruling PDP.

The message from the Osun West political bloc is clear: it’s time for fairness, inclusion, and a chance to lead.
