PDP Faces Crisis as No Aspirant Buys Anambra Governorship Nomination Forms
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is facing significant challenges ahead of the Anambra State governorship election, as no aspirant has yet purchased the party’s ₦40 million expression of interest and nomination forms. The lack of participation signals growing concerns over the party’s stability and internal divisions, raising questions about its ability to field a strong candidate for the upcoming poll.

PDP Extends Deadline Amid Growing Concerns
Initially, the PDP scheduled the sale of nomination forms from February 24 to March 5, with a submission deadline of March 7. However, as of now, no aspirant has stepped forward to obtain the forms, leading the National Working Committee (NWC) to extend the deadline to March 10.
A party official, speaking anonymously, attributed the hesitation to internal crises and leadership disputes within the party.
“As of now, no aspirant has purchased the PDP Anambra governorship nomination forms. They are hesitant due to the party’s instability. The crisis has weakened the party’s influence across different levels, making aspirants cautious about spending such a huge sum,” the source said.
To address concerns, the PDP leadership has scheduled a stakeholders’ interactive session on March 10 at Wadata Plaza, Abuja, in an effort to reassure members and encourage participation in the electoral process.
Power Struggle and Court Battles Deepen PDP Crisis
The PDP’s struggles in Anambra are part of a larger internal crisis affecting its national structure. One of the key disputes involves a battle over the National Secretary position, with Samuel Anyanwu and former National Youth Leader Sunday Ude-Okoye both claiming the role. The Supreme Court is expected to rule on the matter on March 10, which could further shape the party’s direction.
Adding to the turmoil, the controversial South-South zonal congress on February 22 reportedly proceeded without the approval of PDP governors. This move has deepened divisions within the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT), National Working Committee (NWC), and National Executive Committee (NEC), further destabilizing the party’s operations.
PDP’s Future in Anambra Uncertain
The absence of aspirants for the governorship race raises serious concerns about PDP’s electoral chances in Anambra. The party, which once held significant influence in the state, has been struggling to maintain its relevance amid internal discord and external competition.
With the deadline extended to March 10, PDP leaders are now in a race against time to resolve conflicts, restore confidence, and attract candidates willing to contest under its platform. Whether these efforts will be successful remains uncertain, as political observers continue to monitor the unfolding crisis within the party.
