Rivers State Government Recognizes Wike-Loyalist Speaker After Supreme Court Ruling
Fubara Administration Commits to Upholding Rule of Law
The Governor Siminalayi Fubara-led Rivers State Government has officially recognized the Speaker of the State House of Assembly loyal to former Governor and current FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, following a recent Supreme Court ruling.
In a letter addressed to the Assembly, Dr. Tammy Wenike Danagogo, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), confirmed the government’s awareness of the Assembly’s resolutions. However, he noted that as of the close of business on March 4, the Governor’s Office, the Deputy Governor’s Office, and the Office of the Accountant-General had yet to receive formal communication from lawmakers.

Government Awaits Certified Supreme Court Ruling
The statement from the SSG referenced Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s March 2 state broadcast, where he reaffirmed his commitment to respecting the Supreme Court’s verdict, regardless of personal or political considerations.
Dr. Danagogo clarified that while the government acknowledges the Assembly’s decisions, it is still waiting for a certified true copy of the Supreme Court judgment before proceeding with implementation. The legal team is currently reviewing the case to ensure compliance with judicial directives.
“We are yet to receive formal communication from the House of Assembly, and as of now, the certified copy of the Supreme Court ruling is still awaited. Governor Fubara remains committed to the rule of law and will act in the best interest of the state.” – Dr. Tammy Wenike Danagogo, SSG.
Political Tensions in Rivers State Legislature
The recognition of a Wike-loyalist Speaker has further highlighted the ongoing political tensions in Rivers State, where Governor Fubara and Wike’s loyalists have been at odds over control of the Assembly. The Supreme Court ruling has now played a decisive role in shaping the leadership of the legislative arm.
Despite past conflicts between the executive and legislative arms, Governor Fubara’s recent statements suggest a willingness to comply with legal processes, indicating a potential shift toward stability in the state’s political landscape.
Next Steps for the Rivers State Government
The government has assured that once the certified Supreme Court judgment is received, all necessary actions will be taken to implement the ruling. Stakeholders in Rivers State politics are closely watching how this development unfolds, especially in the power struggle between Governor Fubara and Wike’s political camp.
This latest recognition signals that Fubara’s administration is prepared to align with judicial decisions, reinforcing the principle of constitutional governance despite ongoing political dynamics in the state.
