The governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, has praised the Federal Government’s ongoing agricultural reforms, calling the recently established Presidential Livestock Reforms Implementation Committee a well-thought-out proposal.

In his Abere Osun State office, Governor Adeleke received the Presidential Livestock Reforms Initiative Committee, which was headed by Professor Attahiru Jega, and offered the praise.

Governor Adeleke stated that his administration is prepared to support any Federal Government program that would increase the amount of food that Nigerians have on their tables.

“To this end, I would want to sincerely express my interest in this FG’s goal to increase food production, and I will shortly appoint a strong group of agricultural experts to create a good model for Osun on how to best reform the livestock sector.” concluded Governor Adeleke’s comments during the Committee’s visit at his office.

Professor Attahiru Jega, the former Chairman of INEC and Co-Chairman of the Presidential Livestock Initiative Reforms Committee, had earlier stated that his team was in Osun State to promote the Committee’s concept and its overarching goals, which, if implemented, would be advantageous to Osun State.

Professor Jega specifically urged Governor Adeleke to establish a Ministry of cattle in Osun State or an organization that would ensure the Federal Government’s goal of having a vast supply of cattle available across Nigeria is realized.

Professor Jega urged Governor Adeleke to engage the services of important livestock stakeholders and raise awareness of the critical importance of reforming the sector for the benefit of all Nigerians, while also calling for enabling legislation through the State House of Assembly to support the establishment of a Ministry of Livestock.
