The Kwara State Government has ordered the immediate closure of schools across five local government areas in the Kwara South Senatorial District in response to escalating security concerns.
In a statement issued by the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe, the government said the decision was part of a proactive security strategy aimed at ensuring the safety of schoolchildren.

The affected local government areas include Ifelodun, Ekiti, Irepodun, Isin and Oke-Ero.
According to Olohungbebe, the measure underscores the government’s determination to curb the activities of kidnappers who may attempt to use students as human shields as security agencies intensify operations in the region.
He added that the directive also applies to boarding schools in Irepodun LGA, which are considered potential targets for criminals seeking refuge from ongoing security crackdowns.
“The measure may remain in place while awaiting further security clearance for normal activities to resume,” the statement said.
