Oyo Farmers Applaud FG and Adelabu Over Fertiliser Distribution Initiative
O Oyo Farmers across Oyo State have lauded the Federal Government of Nigeria for the timely distribution of fertilisers, aimed at bolstering agricultural productivity and improving the welfare of rural farming communities. The gesture, facilitated through the Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, was received with widespread appreciation and renewed optimism for the coming planting season.
The fertiliser distribution, which forms part of the Federal Government’s broader efforts to strengthen food security and reduce rural poverty, was carried out in partnership with the All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Oyo State chapter.
Speaking during the distribution exercise held in Ibadan, AFAN Chairman in the state, Engineer Olumide Ayinla, expressed gratitude to the government for the agricultural support, stating that the initiative was both timely and impactful.
Fertilisers for Food Security: A Boost for Farmers in Oyo
According to Ayinla, the arrival of fertilisers ahead of the planting season will significantly increase crop yields and improve the income levels of thousands of smallholder farmers across the state. He noted that many farmers in Oyo have struggled in recent times due to the high cost of farm inputs and erratic access to government support.
“This is a major relief for our members,” Ayinla said. “With the support of the Federal Government and the leadership of Chief Adebayo Adelabu, we can now approach the new farming season with hope and renewed energy. The fertilisers will help reduce the cost of production, boost our harvest, and ultimately lead to more affordable food for the people of Oyo State.”
He further stated that the distribution has shown the government’s sincerity in addressing the current food inflation plaguing the nation and reassured members of the farming community that their voices are being heard.
Adelabu Praised for Transparency and Commitment
Engineer Ayinla particularly commended Chief Adebayo Adelabu for his transparency, accountability, and dedication in ensuring the fertilisers reached the intended beneficiaries without political bias or favoritism. He emphasized that such transparency was rare in many public sector interventions and thanked the Minister for “making a difference in the lives of real farmers.”
“Chief Adelabu has shown that he is not only a politician but also a man of integrity and empathy, committed to the well-being of ordinary Nigerians,” he added. “His role in facilitating this programme cannot be overstated, and farmers in Oyo are proud to have a leader who listens and responds to their needs.”
Ayinla explained that due to Adelabu’s personal supervision of the process, genuine farmers, especially those operating in rural and underserved communities, received their fair share of the fertiliser packages.
Impact Expected in Food Prices and Agricultural Output
Farmers across Oyo State are optimistic that the intervention will have a ripple effect on the state’s agricultural productivity. With improved soil fertility and reduced input costs, food production is expected to rise significantly in the coming months. Ayinla predicted that this would translate to a drop in market prices for essential food items, bringing relief to consumers grappling with high inflation.
He also stated that the fertiliser support would enable many young farmers and first-time agric-entrepreneurs to fully participate in the 2025 planting season, thereby expanding employment opportunities in the state’s agrarian communities.
“With more farmers entering the season well-equipped, we are confident of recording one of the most productive harvests in recent years,” Ayinla said.
Farmers Endorse Adelabu’s 2027 Gubernatorial Ambition
Beyond the fertiliser distribution, the event took on a political undertone as many farmers pledged their support for Chief Adebayo Adelabu’s future political aspirations, particularly his widely anticipated run for governor of Oyo State in 2027.
The AFAN chairman declared that the farmers’ association would back Adelabu’s ambition, citing his commitment to grassroots development and practical impact on the lives of ordinary people. He said Adelabu had already distinguished himself through previous philanthropic efforts and policy contributions aimed at empowering farmers and rural dwellers.
“Chief Adelabu has already earned the trust and admiration of farmers in Oyo. If he chooses to run in 2027, he can be assured of our full support,” Ayinla stated. “We want a leader who understands our struggles and works with us to find lasting solutions. He is that leader.”
A Model for Other States
The fertiliser distribution initiative in Oyo State has been praised as a model for other states to emulate. Analysts say that with proper planning, transparency, and partnership with credible associations like AFAN, agricultural interventions can be successfully implemented without being hijacked by non-farmers or middlemen.
The Federal Government’s renewed push for food security underpins its broader economic diversification goals and its response to the growing concern over rising food prices and hunger across the country. Oyo State, with its vast arable land and vibrant farming communities, remains a strategic hub in this national agricultural revival.
As the 2025 planting season unfolds, farmers in Oyo are gearing up with fresh hope, and the collaboration between the federal authorities and community leaders like Chief Adelabu is setting a positive tone for the future of Nigerian agriculture.
