Terrorism: Tinubu Fixing What PDP Destroyed in 16 Years – Lagos APC

TinubuThe Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is steadily repairing the deep structural and security damages allegedly created during the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) 16-year stewardship of Nigeria. The party said the current administration’s counter-terrorism initiatives, defence reforms, and regional security diplomacy are gradually reversing years of “neglect, mismanagement, and political complacency” that left Nigeria vulnerable to extremist violence.

Speaking during a media briefing in Ikeja on Monday, the Lagos APC Publicity Secretary said criticisms of President Tinubu’s security strategy by opposition voices—especially the PDP—were “hypocritical, dishonest, and disconnected from the reality of where Nigeria was in 2015 and the enormous work required to restore stability.”

According to the party, the PDP’s long stay in power created a fertile environment in which terrorism, insurgency, and armed criminal networks took root. They argued that from the early Boko Haram uprising to the expansion of rural banditry and cross-border arms trafficking, the foundations of today’s security challenges were laid during an era of poor intelligence coordination, corruption within the defence procurement system, and weak border control.

The Lagos APC spokesperson said:
“Those who supervised 16 years of decay cannot pretend to be the moral compass for Nigeria today. Under PDP rule, billions of dollars meant for arms and equipment disappeared into private pockets. Soldiers were sent to the frontlines with inadequate tools. Intelligence reports were ignored. Terrorists gained confidence because the government lacked direction. What President Tinubu is doing today is to rebuild a broken security architecture from the ground up.”

He argued that the Tinubu administration inherited not just security threats but also a “deeply compromised institutional structure,” citing the need for new defence doctrines, safer borders, modern equipment, improved troop welfare, and better cooperation with neighbouring countries as priorities that had been neglected in the past.

Highlighting specific reforms, the Lagos APC referenced President Tinubu’s recent strategic partnerships with the United States, France, and other global defence allies, which have led to enhanced intelligence-sharing frameworks, surveillance support, and advanced tactical training for Nigerian security forces. They noted that the President’s decision to overhaul the leadership of the armed forces early in his tenure demonstrated his readiness to depart from old patterns of bureaucracy.

Another major shift, the party said, is the administration’s push for better synergy among the military, police, and intelligence agencies. The spokesperson explained that the past tendency for security agencies to operate in isolation or engage in rivalry made it difficult for Nigeria to confront terrorism effectively.
“Tinubu’s model insists that everyone must work together. That is why operations in the North East, North West, and North Central have become more coordinated. You can see the difference in how terrorists are being pursued, how camps are being dismantled, and how supply routes are being disrupted,” he added.

The Lagos APC further asserted that the government’s investment in technology—such as surveillance drones, communication systems, and data-driven intelligence—marks a turning point in Nigeria’s counter-terrorism strategy. They claimed that while the PDP government relied heavily on outdated methods and political rhetoric, the current administration is prioritizing modern, proactive tools.

While acknowledging that terrorism remains a serious challenge, particularly in flashpoint states, the party insisted that meaningful progress is being recorded. They pointed to recent reports of foiled attacks, improved troop morale, increased community cooperation, and growing international support as signs that the President’s approach is yielding tangible outcomes.

The APC also criticised the PDP’s frequent statements accusing the Tinubu administration of incompetence or mismanagement in security matters. According to the Lagos chapter, such remarks are attempts to “rewrite history” and shift blame away from the failures that allowed terrorism to flourish in the first place.

“Instead of admitting their role in bringing Nigeria to this point, the PDP tries to weaponise insecurity for political gain. But Nigerians remember. They know how we got here. They know that the President is working to fix a system that was damaged long before 2015,” the spokesperson said.

He concluded by calling on Nigerians to support the ongoing reforms and remain patient as the government implements long-term solutions designed to secure the country. “Security restoration is not a magic wand,” he said. “It requires consistency, investment, and national unity. What is important is that we now have a President who understands the root of the problem and is committed to solving it.”

The Lagos APC reaffirmed that the Tinubu administration’s efforts—ranging from enhanced military operations to diplomatic engagements—represent the most coherent and determined approach Nigeria has taken in years to end terrorism and restore peace across the nation.
