Osun State University (UNIOSUN) has officially taken over the Modupe and Folorunso Alakija Medical Research and Training Hospital, a world-class facility donated by the Alakija family to support medical education, research, and healthcare development in Nigeria.
According to a statement by the University’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ademola Adesoji, the official handover ceremony took place on Wednesday, November 5, 2025, at Famfa Towers in Ikoyi, Lagos.
The event was graced by key members of the University community, including the Chancellor, Apostle (Dr) (Mrs) Folorunso Alakija; the Pro-Chancellor, Professor Wale Oladipo; and the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Odunayo Clement Adebooye.
Speaking during the ceremony, the Managing Director of Famfa Oil and representative of the donor family, Mr. Dele Alakija, expressed the family’s delight in entrusting the facility to the University.

“It is with great joy and gratitude that our family officially hands over this state-of-the-art medical research and training hospital to Osun State University,” he said.
He noted that the donation fulfilled the vision of his parents, Modupe and Folorunso Alakija, to strengthen Nigeria’s healthcare system through education, innovation, and service.
He further commended UNIOSUN for sharing that vision and pledged the family’s continued support for medical and health-related initiatives.
“The facility is equipped with world-class medical equipment, and we look forward to the positive impact it will have on the University community and society at large,” he added.
In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Odunayo Clement Adebooye, described the donation as a generational legacy that would redefine medical training and research in Nigeria.
“This is not just a gift; it is a living institution that will outlive all of us,” he said.

Adebooye expressed deep gratitude to the Chancellor, Apostle (Dr) (Mrs) Folorunso Alakija, for her benevolence and unwavering belief in the University’s vision.
He also appreciated the former Deputy Governor of Osun State, Otunba Titi Laoye-Ponnle, for facilitating the partnership, and former Vice-Chancellor, Professor Labo Popoola, for initiating the engagement with the Alakija family.
He extended special thanks to the Ataoja of Osogbo for donating the land on which the hospital was built and to Architect Bose Ajayi for her professionalism in supervising the project.
“Today is one of the happiest moments of my career,” the Vice-Chancellor added. “I was part of the team that first visited the forest where this project began, never imagining I would one day return as Vice-Chancellor to receive this magnificent hospital on behalf of the University.”
