50-year-old farmer’s death in Ogun sparks police investigation

The murder of 50-year-old farm laborer Alfa Mustapha, whose lifeless body was found on his farm in Ageri Village, close to Olodo, Odeda Local Council, has been the subject of a thorough investigation by the Ogun State Police Command.

According to information obtained by The Guardian, Moshood Mustapha, the Chief Imam of Ageri Mosque, reported the event to the Olodo Police Outstation at approximately 6:30 p.m. on February 22, 2025. According to the Imam, the deceased had left for his farm in the morning but had not come home.

At around 6:02 p.m., the Imam, worried about his disappearance, went to the farm and discovered the corpse lying face up with his cutlass next to him.
Following receipt of the report, outstation police officers, under the direction of the officer in command, went to the scene and verified the victim’s death. However, no apparent indications of violence were found on the body because of the intense rain and limited nighttime sight.

After taking pictures of the scene, the body was sent to General Hospital in Odeda for a medical evaluation. According to a later medical examination, the dead was shot at close range since he had pellet wounds from bullets. Since then, the body has been placed in the hospital morgue for additional forensic analysis.

In response to the occurrence, Dr. Lanre Ogunlowo, the Commissioner of Police, ordered a thorough investigation to find and capture the offender or offenders. He gave the public his word that the Command would do everything in its power to ensure that those guilty are held accountable.

Additionally, the command urged anyone with information that could help with the inquiry to come forward, emphasizing that all information would be kept completely secret. As the inquiry develops, more information will be released.
