Sets Sights on 35 Million Voters to Challenge APC and Tinubu in 2027
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has launched an ambitious campaign to reshape Nigeria’s political future by mobilising at least 35 million voters ahead of the 2027 general elections. This bold declaration came from the party’s National Chairman, Ralphs Okey Nwosu, during the ADC Global Summit held in Abuja on Wednesday.
Nwosu directly challenged the legitimacy of the current administration, questioning how President Bola Ahmed Tinubu could govern effectively after securing fewer than 10 million votes in the 2023 elections, despite over 88 million registered voters nationwide. “We cannot call that a mandate,” he stated. “It’s time to reclaim democracy and give the Nigerian people real leadership.”
The ADC chairman criticised the level of voter apathy that has historically plagued Nigerian elections and announced a renewed effort to reverse the trend by engaging previously inactive citizens and first-time voters. “Our strategy is focused on reactivating civic participation. We are targeting those who have given up on voting and those who just turned 18 since 2023. They deserve to be heard,” he said.

Galvanising Civil Society and the Youth
Nwosu revealed that civil society organisations have already joined forces with the ADC, significantly boosting the party’s mobilisation capacity. “These groups have grown rapidly. They joined us less than six months ago and already have over five million members. Their aim is to contribute at least 20 million votes,” he disclosed.
He stressed that the projected 35 million votes may even be a conservative estimate, pointing to the growing frustration among Nigerians over governance issues such as economic hardship, insecurity, and corruption. “Because of the challenges in this country, I believe the numbers will be even higher. For the first time, the next president of Nigeria will win clearly — with a resounding mandate,” Nwosu asserted.
Strategic Coalition-Building Across Political Lines
In addition to voter mobilisation, the ADC is spearheading efforts to forge a massive political coalition that will challenge the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its potential candidate, President Tinubu, if he seeks re-election. Nwosu described the planned coalition as “the biggest, people-driven alliance” in Nigeria’s political history.
“We are bringing many political parties together,” he said. “This is not just about the ADC. This is about saving Nigeria. You’re going to see the largest coalition of patriots, all united by one goal — restoring hope, dignity, and development to Nigeria.”
The move comes at a time of heightened political activity, with the ruling APC facing increasing scrutiny over its handling of the economy and governance. Inflation, unemployment, and growing public dissatisfaction with key reforms — such as the removal of fuel subsidies — have eroded trust in the party’s leadership.
A Clear Warning to the APC
The ADC’s aggressive stance is being seen as a clear warning to the APC and other entrenched political interests. By aiming to mobilise a record number of voters, the ADC hopes to break the cycle of low turnout and electoral disillusionment that has historically undermined Nigeria’s democratic process.
Nwosu emphasised that the time has come for Nigerians to take control of their political destiny. “This is our country, and we will not let it slip further into dysfunction. The power belongs to the people, and in 2027, we will use that power to vote for change,” he said.
The ADC’s confidence and planning signal that the 2027 elections could be one of the most competitive in Nigeria’s history. With a rising wave of political consciousness and a focus on inclusive, grassroots mobilisation, the party aims to present a formidable challenge to the ruling APC.
As Nigeria inches closer to another defining electoral season, the ADC’s message is clear: the days of low participation and predetermined outcomes are numbered. A new era of democratic engagement may be on the horizon, driven by a coalition of citizens and parties determined to steer the nation toward a better future.
