Farasime Village, situated at the strategic Owode Apa border within Badagry West in the Badagry Local Government Area of Lagos State, has descended into turmoil due to an intense gunfight between Nigerian Navy officers and local youths.

The confrontation reportedly broke out early on Thursday when Nigerian Navy personnel launched an operation targeting smugglers who were allegedly transporting Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), often referred to as petrol, over the border to Cotonou.

A source, speaking to Journalist while taking refuge in his residence, recounted how the situation unfolded. The naval officers’ attempts to apprehend smugglers met with fierce resistance from village youths, escalating into a violent exchange of gunfire. The source, voice laced with anxiety, described the unfolding chaos, expressing deep concern for his safety amid the crossfire. “Right now, I’m not sure of my safety. It is Farasimè village in Badagry West, Lagos State, at the Owode Apa border.

“It is that the Navy came to arrest people who are smuggling fuel through there to Cotonou, and the youths are resisting, so the Navy officers are shooting.

“Please, somebody help us. My house is by the roadside.

“I’m not involved in smuggling. I don’t do that kind of business. Youths have put a big fire in front of my house to block the road. I’m very scared.”

Despite efforts to reach the navy for an official comment, there has been no response at the time of this report, leaving the village gripped in uncertainty and fear.
