He revealed that the event happened on Saturday at 12:10 p.m. when two commercial buses collided and caught fire.
Ibitoye claims that two more people perished en route to the hospital, while 28 more people inside the cars burned to death on the spot.
However, he added that two other people survived the tragedy and are still in the hospital getting treatment.
The FRSC commander provided explanations for the mishap, revealing that the initial inquiry
of the commission found that one of the vehicles involved in the collision had a driver who was driving against the flow of traffic.
According to the sector commander’s Sunday incident update, the two people who were taken to the hospital are currently responding to treatment.
“The Olaoluwa Medical Clinic, Onipetesi in Odigbo Local Government Area of the state is providing medical treatment to the two other rescued victims,” he said.
The General Hospital in Ore, Odigbo Local Government Area, Ondo State, has received the bodies of 30 of the 32 people who were inside the vehicles and were burned to death.
Private transportation companies GUO Transport Company and Flight Transport Company owned the two buses that were involved in the collision.
According to Sector Commander Ibitoye, the bus driver for GUO Transport Company was traveling from Lagos and was driving against the flow of traffic.
The other Flight Transport Company bus was traveling to Lagos from Gboko, Benue State.
According to the FRSC report, “The preliminary investigation showed that the two buses were speeding in violation of traffic laws and regulations, and the GUO Transport Company bus from Lagos was driving against the flow of traffic, resulting in the terrible collision.”
“On its way to Lagos, the Flight Transport Company bus was traveling from Gboko, Benue State.”
Therefore, the Sector Commander urged drivers to follow traffic laws, and commuters should try to warn vehicles when they are exceeding the posted speed limit or breaking the law.
