Ibadan, Oyo State — The Oyo State Police Command and Oorelope Local Government authorities have dismissed widespread social media claims that Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, rescued victims abducted by kidnappers in Igboho, Oyo State.

The controversy followed viral reports suggesting that the kidnapped victims had regained their freedom after an ultimatum allegedly issued by Igboho to the abductors. However, local authorities have described the reports as false and misleading.

Speaking on the development, the Chairman of Oorelope Local Government stated that the victims remained in captivity, contrary to claims circulating online. He urged residents and members of the public to disregard unverified information and allow security agencies to carry out their operations.

Similarly, the Oyo State Police Command reaffirmed that efforts to secure the release of the abducted victims were ongoing. The police said investigations into the kidnapping incident and related viral videos were underway, stressing that no official confirmation had been made regarding the victims’ release.

The authorities noted that security operatives were intensifying search and rescue efforts to ensure the safe return of the victims, including Mrs. Kuburat Omowumi, who was reportedly among those abducted.

The incident has generated significant public attention, with many residents expressing concern over the rising cases of kidnapping and insecurity in parts of the state.
