2014 Confab: Jonathan Reveals Why He Didn’t Implement Recommendations
The unstable political environment at the time was cited by former President Goodluck Jonathan as the reason why his administration was unable to carry out the 2014 National Conference’s recommendations.
During a condolence visit to the family of the late Afenifere leader, Chief Ayo Adebanjo, in Lagos on Sunday, Jonathan revealed this information. Atiku Abubakar, the former vice president, accompanied him and paid his tributes to the elder statesman.

Jonathan responded to inquiries regarding the future of the National Conference suggestions by stating that it was challenging to deliver and implement the paper due to the uncertain political climate in Nigeria at the time.
We couldn’t have presented such a thing at that time. Give thanks to God for everything. One day, we think, one government will look it over and take it all,” he said.
He underlined that the suggestions were made by reliable Nigerians who were unaffected by politics and that they are still pertinent to the advancement of the country.
Visit to Offer Condolences to the Family of the Late Ayo Adebanjo
According to news sources, Jonathan praised the late Adebanjo’s achievements and said he was crucial in getting the 2014 National Conference organized.
At the age of 96, Adebanjo died on February 14, 2025. During the visit, his legacy as a leader dedicated to truth and justice was greatly acknowledged.
At 1:57 p.m., Jonathan arrived at Adebanjo’s home in Lekki with former PDP Deputy National Chairman Chief Olabode George, former President Ernest Bai Koroma of Sierra Leone, and other political leaders.
Atiku Abubakar later visited with the family and Afenifere members, including Oba Oladipo Olaitan, after arriving at approximately 3:00 p.m. He characterized Adebanjo as a leader committed to the peaceful coexistence and unity of Nigeria.
“We should come and pay respect for his contributions to the unity and peaceful coexistence of this country after his death, as it is a matter of honor,” Atiku stated.
Jonathan stated that certain people were committed to overthrowing his government. “A key member of the legislature, who was in my party, mobilized against me and moved to another party,” he added.
