Residents of communities in the eastern part of Sokoto State, particularly Tidibale, a small agrarian settlement in Isa Local Government Area, have begun fleeing their homes in large numbers following fresh threats allegedly issued by notorious bandits’ kingpin, Bello Turji.

Local sources said panic gripped Tidibale and neighbouring villages after warnings circulated that the armed group planned renewed attacks on communities accused of collaborating with security forces. Many families were seen moving toward safer towns and nearby local government headquarters, abandoning farmlands, homes and livestock.

Community leaders told reporters that the threats have disrupted farming activities at a critical period of the agricultural season, raising fears of food shortages and deepening hardship for already vulnerable rural dwellers. “People are afraid to sleep in their houses or go to their farms,” a resident said, adding that entire households have relocated overnight.

The development has heightened security concerns in Isa LGA and surrounding areas, which have repeatedly faced bandit attacks, abductions and cattle rustling in recent years. Despite ongoing military operations in parts of Sokoto and neighbouring states, residents say fear remains high due to sporadic reprisals by armed groups.

Efforts to reach security authorities for official comments were unsuccessful as of press time. However, residents are calling on the state and federal governments to urgently reinforce security presence in the affected communities to prevent further displacement and restore confidence among villagers.
