INEC Recognizes Turaki-Led PDP NWC, Dismisses Fraudulent Postponement Plot by Expelled Abdulrahman, Anyanwu
In a decisive move that reinforces internal party legitimacy and protects Nigeria’s democratic process, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has affirmed the Kabiru Tanimu Turaki (SAN)–led National Working Committee (NWC) as the only lawful leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

INEC’s confirmation effectively nullifies a controversial letter submitted by expelled party members Mohammed Abdulrahman and Samuel Anyanwu, who falsely claimed to be Acting National Chairman and National Secretary respectively. The duo attempted to halt the Ekiti State gubernatorial primaries scheduled for November 8, 2025, citing alleged “logistics constraints.”
INEC rejected the request outright, describing the correspondence as invalid and reaffirming that only communications originating from the duly recognized PDP National Chairman and National Secretary carry constitutional authority.
This firm stance aligns with the electoral body’s established recognition of the PDP’s disciplinary actions. Both Abdulrahman and Anyanwu—alongside other high-profile actors—were suspended on November 1, 2025, for anti-party activities in violation of Sections 57(3), 58(1)(a)(b)(c)(h), and 59(1) of the PDP Constitution (2017 as amended). Their suspensions, along with those of Nyesom Wike and Ayo Fayose, were fully ratified at the PDP National Convention in Ibadan on November 15, 2025.
At the Ibadan convention, Turaki emerged as the democratically elected National Chairman, while the expelled figures were sanctioned for actions deemed deeply injurious to the party—ranging from instigating parallel leadership structures to court meddling aimed at destabilization.
With this latest pronouncement, INEC has not only upheld the sovereignty of party institutions but has also thwarted a brazen attempt by impostors to derail the PDP’s Ekiti governorship primary process. The move strengthens the party’s internal coherence and reinforces its preparedness as Nigeria’s leading opposition force.
