No Extension of Customs CG’s Tenure By President – NCS Spokesman

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has debunked reports claiming that President Bola Tinubu has extended the tenure of Comptroller-General Bashir Adewale Adeniyi.

In a statement issued by NCS National Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Maiwada, the agency dismissed the reports, allegedly originating from the State House as false and misleading.

The statement clarified that the appointment and tenure extension of the Comptroller-General are strictly at the discretion of the President and Commander-in-Chief, in line with the Nigeria Customs Service Act 2023 and other relevant public service regulations.

“As of now, no such directive has been communicated to the NCS by the appropriate authorities,” the statement emphasized, labeling the reports as mere speculation.

Reaffirming its dedication to core responsibilities such as trade facilitation, revenue generation, and border security, the NCS highlighted the reforms spearheaded by CGC Adeniyi. These initiatives, it said, aim to modernize operations, strengthen inter-agency collaboration, and contribute to national economic growth.

The agency also urged the public and stakeholders to rely only on official sources for accurate information regarding appointments and tenure-related matters.

“Any updates on appointments or tenure decisions will be formally communicated through the appropriate government channels,” the statement added.

Maiwada further reassured stakeholders of the NCS’s commitment to transparency, professionalism, and dedicated service to the nation.
