Terrorists have reportedly abducted four rice farmers in Bokungi Village, Edu Local Government Area of Kwara State, in a new assault that occurred less than 24 hours after gunmen attacked a church in Eruku, Ekiti LGA.

According to sources who spoke to SaharaReporters, the farmers were seized on Wednesday evening while working on their fields at the height of the harvest season.

A community source said the attackers appeared without warning and surrounded the victims as they gathered their harvested rice.

“It has been confirmed that bandits struck again at Bokungi under the Lafiagi Emirate. Four people were abducted. Information is still emerging,” the source said.

Residents reported that the gunmen operated unchallenged for several minutes, forcing the farmers into the nearby bush before taking them to an unknown location.

Community members lamented that worsening insecurity in Edu LGA has pushed many farming settlements into abandonment, as fear of attacks intensifies during the harvest period when farmers are most vulnerable.

As of the time of filing this report, the Kwara State Police Command had not issued an official statement on the incident.

The latest abduction follows Tuesday evening’s attack on a Christ Apostolic Church branch in Eruku, where terrorists killed three worshippers and kidnapped several others, including the pastor.

Sources said the attackers stormed the church during a meeting and immediately opened fire, causing chaos as worshippers fled.

“Three people were killed instantly,” one witness said. “They gathered others at gunpoint and marched them into the bush. We still don’t know the exact number taken.”

The gunmen were said to have escaped through bush paths linking Eruku to nearby communities, leaving residents in fear and uncertainty as security concerns escalate across the region.
