OsunThe Osun State Police Command has refuted a viral social media video alleging that bandits were preparing to attack Ilesa, describing the content as fabricated and aimed at causing fear.

In a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, Mr. Abiodun Ojelabi, the police disclosed that the video was artificially generated and deliberately crafted to mislead the public.

He stressed that the claim was false, malicious, and intended to stir unnecessary panic among residents.

“The attention of the Police Command has been drawn to a viral AI-generated video circulating on social media, falsely claiming that bandits are advancing towards Ilesa, Osun State. This allegation is baseless, misleading, and deliberately designed to instil fear, cause panic, and disrupt public peace,” the statement read.

Mr. Ojelabi condemned the growing misuse of artificial intelligence tools to spread misinformation, warning the public to desist from creating or circulating unverified content that could jeopardise the peace and security of the state.

He added that the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ibrahim Gotan, had already deployed covert and overt operatives to the Ilesa axis and other strategic locations to reinforce security and forestall any threat to law and order.

The Police PRO urged residents to remain calm and report suspicious movements or persons to the nearest police station, or via the Command’s emergency lines: 08039537995 and 08123823981.

He assured the public that the Osun State Police Command remains fully committed to protecting the lives and property of all residents.
