Ogunwale’s Resignation Brings ‘Relief’, Says PDP Ward 01 in Osun State
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ward 01, Iragbiji, Boripe Local Government Area of Osun State, has formally reacted to the resignation of former senator and party stalwart, Felix Kola Ogunwale, describing his departure as “a relief” to the party at both ward and local government levels. The development was the highlight of a special ward congress convened on Monday by party leaders, stakeholders, and grassroots members.
Ogunwale, a former senator representing Osun Central and ex-chairman of the Governing Council of the Osun State College of Health Technology, Ilesa, tendered his resignation via a letter addressed to the Osun PDP Chairman, Sunday Bisi, and Governor Ademola Adeleke. In the letter, Ogunwale cited “personal growth” and a “sincere commitment to the welfare of his people” as his reasons for leaving the PDP.

However, the reaction from his former political base was anything but regretful.
Ward 01 PDP Chairperson, Taibat Oladimeji, whose remarks were read by Abayomi Adegoke at the congress, stated that Ogunwale’s exit did not come as a surprise. According to her, the former senator had not been involved in any party activities for about a year, and his absence had long been compensated for by other committed party members.
“The special ward congress affirmed that the exit of Senator Felix Kola Ogunwale (Jumokol) from the party was a relief for us at the ward and local government level because he has not participated in any party activities for about a year,” Oladimeji said.
“We have filled the gap long before now.”
She added that the leadership of Ward 01 would officially communicate its position to the PDP structures at both state and national levels.
PDP Leaders Pledge Unity and Support for Adeleke’s Government
The congress served as more than just a platform for reacting to Ogunwale’s resignation. It also became an avenue for the party’s local leadership to reaffirm their unity, strength, and unwavering support for Governor Ademola Adeleke and the PDP.
In a show of solidarity, Oladimeji reiterated that all ward leaders, party executives, and members remain “faithful, steadfast, undeterred and resolute” in their commitment to the PDP. She vowed that the ward would continue to fly the party’s flag high and work tirelessly to secure victory in upcoming elections.
“All of us… remain faithful, steadfast, undeterred and resolute to uphold our party, keep the flag flying and give victory to our party in all future elections.”
A major resolution passed at the congress was a vote of confidence in Governor Adeleke. Ward leaders lauded his leadership and effective governance, particularly commending his impact in Boripe Local Government through ongoing infrastructure projects and welfare schemes.
“We are proud of the projects Governor Adeleke is executing in our local government. His performance is inspiring our people to have more faith in the PDP,” Oladimeji added.
The ward leadership maintained that the synergy between the party and the state government had fostered political stability and governance progress, pointing to the governor’s inclusive leadership style and developmental agenda.
Ogunwale’s Departure: A Non-Disruptive Transition
Though Ogunwale’s political career once had significant influence within Osun PDP, the current narrative from his home ward suggests that his relevance had significantly waned. His cited reason of “personal growth” was not challenged by the ward; instead, the tone was of closure, not conflict.
Political observers believe that the PDP in Osun has seen a generational and strategic shift, with new leaders and loyal party members taking on more prominent roles at the grassroots. The leadership’s dismissive tone toward Ogunwale’s resignation underscores this transition.
There is also speculation that Ogunwale may align with another political party ahead of future elections, a move that would be closely watched in Osun’s evolving political dynamics. However, Ward 01 PDP leaders appear unshaken by such prospects, maintaining that the party remains intact and forward-looking.
Stronger Ground Game for the PDP
With Ogunwale’s resignation now behind them, PDP members in Ward 01 are setting their sights firmly on the future. The congress ended with a renewed call for internal cohesion, strategic mobilization, and community engagement.
The leaders stressed the need to consolidate the party’s grassroots support ahead of upcoming elections, promising to intensify door-to-door campaigns and strengthen alliances within the Boripe Local Government Area.
Oladimeji concluded with a message of reassurance to the governor and the party leadership at large:
“Our loyalty is unshakable. Governor Adeleke can count on Ward 01 — we are ready to deliver again and again.”
As Osun PDP navigates post-resignation politics, the tone from Iragbiji suggests a confident and united party base, eager to chart its own course in the state’s political landscape.
