The President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Joe Ajaero, on Tuesday led a nationwide protest against rising insecurity across the country, with activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, joining the demonstration.
The protest, organised by the NLC and allied civil society groups, saw workers and activists march through major streets, calling on the Federal Government to take urgent and decisive action to address widespread killings, kidnappings, and banditry affecting many parts of Nigeria.

Addressing protesters, Ajaero said insecurity had reached alarming levels, threatening lives, livelihoods, and economic activities, while accusing the government of failing to protect citizens. He stressed that workers could no longer remain silent as insecurity continues to worsen.
Sowore, who marched alongside labour leaders, described the situation as a national emergency, urging Nigerians to demand accountability from political leaders. He called for a complete overhaul of the country’s security architecture and better welfare for security personnel.
The protesters carried placards with inscriptions such as “Stop the Killings,” “Insecurity Is Everyone’s Problem,” and “Government Must Act Now.” Security agencies monitored the protests, which remained largely peaceful.
The demonstration comes amid growing public outrage over persistent attacks and abductions across several states, despite repeated assurances by the Federal Government that it is tackling insecurity.
