An angry mob on Tuesday reportedly attacked a serving lawmaker in Zamfara State over allegations of poor representation and neglect of constituents’ needs.

Witnesses said the incident occurred during a visit by the legislator to his constituency, where residents confronted him over unfulfilled campaign promises, worsening insecurity, and lack of visible development projects in the area. The confrontation quickly escalated, forcing the lawmaker to flee the scene as youths pelted his convoy with stones.

Although details of injuries remain unclear, sources said security operatives intervened to prevent the situation from deteriorating further. The lawmaker was later escorted out of the area under tight security.

Residents accused the legislator of abandoning the constituency after elections, claiming they had not benefited from constituency projects or regular engagement. “We only see him during campaigns,” one resident said. “There is no empowerment, no projects, nothing.”

Zamfara State has been grappling with severe insecurity, poverty, and displacement caused by banditry, issues many residents believe their elected officials have failed to address adequately.

As of the time of filing this report, the lawmaker had not issued an official statement on the incident, while the police said they were investigating the attack and urged residents to remain calm and pursue grievances through lawful means.
