Ajibola Basiru, the national secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has said that the ruling party is happy about the current crisis inside the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and that the opposition’s internal strife doesn’t affect the APC.
During the opening of unit, ward, and local government canvassers for the APC’s Alubarika Movement in Osun State on Sunday, Basiru made this statement.
He denied claims that the ruling party was involved in the PDP’s crisis, stating that the infighting inside the opposition party was caused by individual aspirations.

The opposition party’s division is being caused by the ambition of a small number of people, and as the ruling party, we are delighted if they fail to pull themselves together. Helping them organize their home is not our responsibility,” Basiru said.

Speaking about the 2026 Osun gubernatorial race, Basiru gave party members his word that the APC would hold a legitimate primary poll, but he also made a suggestion that party leadership agreements would result in the selection of a consensus candidate.

“I can guarantee you that the candidate may emerge from consensus arrangements by the party leadership, but the primary election will be free and fair,” he stated.

He insisted that the APC would not split over the governorship ticket, highlighting the party’s continued strength of unity.

“The Osun State primary election cannot split the APC. Every member of our party has a right to want to make sure we have a candidate who will deliver and beat the PDP because our party is a leadership party,” he continued.

Basiru used previous APC primaries in Ondo and Edo States to illustrate how the party managed its candidate selection process effectively even though there were several contenders.
