Burna Boy, a Grammy-winning Nigerian musician, has defended himself against comparisons to Afrobeat icon Fela Kuti, saying, “I am BIG7, not Fela.”

Burna Boy made the statement as part of a series of remarks about integrity and authenticity on social media as the year comes to an end on Monday via Instagram.

The self-described “African Giant” emphasized in his post that he is focused on “positivity, peace, and wealth,” but he added a sarcastic twist to his message by adding, “Honestly, I would rather murder you than die for you.”

Burna Boy also took use of the occasion to speak out against what he sees as an increasingly dishonest culture.

“If you ever lied about purchasing Sujimoto’s house in Banana Island when you only rented it, do better in 2025. If you ever lied about Elele’s house being yours, do better in 2025.” He went on, “If you have an aftermarket ‘rainbow Daytona,’ please stop telling people it is real. Do better in 2025.” He was specifically targeting unnamed people.

The artist did not hold back when urging more candor in the upcoming year.

Telling as many lies as certain folks ought to be illegal. The list is endless,” he continued.

Additionally, Burna Boy alluded to a possible interview with well-known Nigerian broadcaster Ebuka Obi-Uchendu.

Does Ebuka continue to do all of those interviews? He wrote, “I do not enjoy interviews at all, but I go like run 1.”
