Aliko Dangote, President of Dangote Industries Limited (DIL), has accused the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Farouk Ahmed, of corruption and living far beyond his legitimate means.
Dangote alleged that Ahmed paid as much as $5 million in school fees to secondary schools in Switzerland for four of his children over a six-year period. Although he did not disclose the specific names of the schools, the billionaire industrialist questioned how a public official could afford such expenditure.

Speaking on the matter, Dangote said the alleged payments raise serious concerns about financial impropriety, conflict of interest, and the integrity of regulatory oversight in Nigeria’s downstream petroleum sector.
According to him, such lavish spending is inconsistent with the known income of a public servant and warrants urgent scrutiny by the federal government and relevant anti-corruption agencies.
“This is a clear case of living above one’s means,” Dangote reportedly stated, calling on authorities to thoroughly investigate the source of funds used for the foreign education of the NMDPRA chief’s children.
The allegation comes amid ongoing tensions between Dangote Industries and petroleum sector regulators, particularly over refinery operations, fuel pricing, and regulatory approvals.
As of the time of filing this report, Farouk Ahmed and the NMDPRA have not issued an official response to the allegations.
