Governor Hope Uzodinma Warns Imo East Leaders Against Political Tension
Uzodinma Calls for Stability in Owerri Zone Politics
Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodinma, has cautioned political leaders from Imo East Senatorial District, also known as Owerri Zone, against engaging in actions that could create instability in the state’s political landscape. The governor emphasized the importance of maintaining peace while urging leaders to avoid unnecessary political tensions.
Governor Uzodinma gave this warning during a meeting with leaders of the Owerri Harmony Project, a political group representing the zone, at the Government House in Owerri. He reaffirmed his commitment to governance but acknowledged that he could not single-handedly address all of the state’s issues.

Imo’s Progress Requires Collective Leadership
Addressing the gathering, Governor Uzodinma stressed that governance is a continuous process, and every leader contributes in stages. He expressed appreciation for the support and confidence the Owerri Zone leaders had placed in his administration.
“I welcome you to the Imo Government House, your house. Feel at home. Democracy is about the people, and you represent the people. I deeply appreciate your vote of implicit confidence in my leadership. This is a big trust, and I will work hard to justify it,” he said.
The governor acknowledged that while he is making efforts to solve various challenges facing Imo State, it would be unrealistic to expect that he alone could resolve all of them. He emphasized that future leaders would have to continue from where his administration stops, ensuring that the development of Imo remains an ongoing project.
“I will not solve all the problems in Imo. I will do the ones I can do, but the man coming after me should be able to do some,” Uzodinma stated. “So we must use taxpayers’ money for our people.”
A Call for Merit-Based Leadership
Governor Uzodinma further emphasized the need for meritocracy in leadership selection, stressing that Imo State requires a bold and courageous leader to continue the progress achieved so far. He noted the security challenges that arose when he assumed office and praised his administration’s resilience in overcoming them.
“We will support merit. We must look for merit because we need a man who is courageous,” he declared. “You saw the insecurity that greeted my emergence. You see, by the grace of God, we were able to survive it, so what we need is a well-focused, bold, courageous man. That is my prayer for the kind of person who will be my successor. The person who may not be a troublemaker but must fight if a fight is necessary.”
Commitment to Stability in Imo State
Governor Uzodinma’s remarks serve as a strong message to political leaders in Imo East to work towards stability rather than political rivalry and conflicts. His call for a successor with courage and vision also underscores the importance of continuity in governance for sustained development in Imo State.
As political activities intensify in the region, his words may serve as a guiding principle for leaders and stakeholders in the state’s future leadership selection process.
