Gunmen have killed a police officer and abducted a Chinese expatriate during a violent attack on a farm in Ogunmakin Community, in the Ibadan axis of Oyo State.

Reports indicate that the incident occurred at about 1:00 p.m. on Thursday at Aqua Triton Company, where about 10 armed men reportedly stormed the facility in a commando-style operation.

During the attack, the assailants abducted a company director, identified as 42-year-old Renjith Pillai, who was inspecting crops on the farm at the time.

Confirming the incident, the Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, Ayanlade Olayinka, said the police officer on duty lost his life while bravely attempting to repel the attackers.

“I can confirm that an attack occurred at Aqua Triton Company in Ogunmakin, near Ibadan, when unknown gunmen stormed the facility in a commando-style operation. One police officer was tragically killed while resisting the attack, during which some of the assailants were injured, and a Chinese expatriate principal was abducted,” Olayinka stated.

Although the identities of all the victims are yet to be officially confirmed, the police spokesperson disclosed that a coordinated search-and-rescue operation has commenced.

He added that the Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Femi Haruna, has ordered an immediate manhunt for the perpetrators.

“Upon receiving the report, the Commissioner of Police directed the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations to lead the Anti-Kidnapping Squad and other tactical teams to the scene. A bush-combing operation is currently ongoing, and a comprehensive investigation has been launched to ensure the safe rescue of the abducted expatriate and the arrest and prosecution of those responsible,” Olayinka said.
