According to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, completing the Ibadan Airport’s upgrading to an international standard is one of his top goals for the state this year.

Speaking yesterday, Makinde stated that despite the fact that he has been receiving a lot of teasing regarding the facility’s feasibility, the work his administration has done thus far will make the airport feasible and competitive with Lagos’s Murtala Mohammed International Airport.

He spoke during the Annual Thanksgiving Service at the Rehoboth Cathedral, located off Ring Road in Ibadan at the Victory Land Complex, Oluyole Estate Extension.

According to Makinde, the airport’s original purpose was to serve as a substitute for the one in Lagos. He used the occasion to reveal some of the objectives his government hoped to accomplish this year.

The governor expressed gratitude to the state’s citizens and the church for their prayers and intercession, which he said enabled his administration to successfully navigate 2024.

“Because it is a difficult atmosphere, I would want to thank the church for always remembering the administration in your prayers,” Makinde stated. We would not have made some of the progress you observe and say, “Well, you have a government,” if it were not for the prayers and intercessions.

For the past six years or thereabouts, you have been a source of inspiration and happiness for our administration. The COVID-19 pandemic struck just seven months after we began, so we had to navigate unfamiliar circumstances. And God has kept us going till now with the help of the church’s prayers and words of support, as well as those of a number of other supporters of our government. Do not give in, please. We are all in this together, 2025.

Bishop Taiwo Adelakun encouraged the populace to express gratitude to God, pointing out that a grateful heart will be blessed with more.
