The ultra-modern Temitayo Felix Owolabi Female Hostel at the Precious Cornerstone University (PCU), Olaogun, Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, was inaugurated by Governor Seyi Makinde. Chief of Staff Segun Ogunwuyi, who was attending the occasion on behalf of Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, praised the couple’s effort and their passion for advancing education. As the facility was made available to the institution’s female students, Makinde prayed that God would give the couple the strength to accomplish more.
In his speech, Bishop Francis Wale Oke, the chancellor of Precious Cornerstone University in Ibadan, counseled the school’s alumni to emphasize the importance of giving back to their various alma mater as a token of gratitude for the principles the institutions had taught them. In addition, Oke serves as the Presiding Bishop of Sword of the Spirit Ministries and President of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria.
“I pray that you, my children, will have a great life,” the chancellor remarked. I want you to keep this institution in mind once you have achieved greatness. In order to show their love and dedication to the institution that shaped their values and knowledge, former students should be resolved to give back to their alma mater. “We give all thanks to God for making the dedication of this exquisite hostel complex, the Temitayo Felix Owolabi Female Hostel at the PCU, a reality,” said Oke, who was accompanied by his wife, Victoria Tokunbo Oke.
“We value the devotion and affection that Reverend Dr. Felix Owolabi and his wife, Temitayo Owolabi, have shown for this university’s future.” He prayed that God would support them no matter what. When the cost of building materials rose, our correspondent’s checks revealed that the recently finished female dormitory was ready to be roofed. The project was expected to cost N450 million to complete when the management made the decision to start building again. Bishop Owolabi and his spouse intervened at that point. When I first started the project, I wanted to contribute something. However, my wife insisted that we cover the entire cost.
Referring to his wife, he said, “I appreciate this lady for pushing me towards the great destiny that God has for me. I intended to give support but he told me not to bother writing any cheques because she had already emptied our account for the church.
“Also, when we decided to commit to the hostel project, she told me that we would be responsible for the total cost and not merely contribute. She has pushed me into a great destiny because in the past when I got to the United States of America newly ordinary $10 meant a lot to me. But today, a big amount of money that meant so much to me in the past does not have any value to me any longer.” He said.
The students of the PCU expressed joy over the completion of the hostel building saying that it would bring them great relief.
Other leading personalities who expressed joy at the progress being made by the institution are the former Minister for Special Duties,
Elder Wole Oyelese; former Military Governor of old Oyo State, Gen. Oladayo Popoola; and Dr Bayo Adegoke.
