NECO To Establish Examination Centres For Police
Prof. Dantani Wushishi, the Registrar of the National Examinations Council (NECO), has committed to setting up police examination centers in Lagos State.
Prof. Dantani Wushishi, the Registrar of the National Examinations Council (NECO), has committed to setting up police examination centers in Lagos State.
He made the pledge on Friday in Ikeja when paying a courtesy call to Mr. Olohundare Jimoh, the Commissioner of Police for the Lagos State Command.

Wushishi stated that NECO will think about setting up six locations for police families to take the test.
“NECO administers five distinct tests: the Basis Education Certificate Examination, the National Common Entrance Examination, the National Gifted Examination, which determines admission to the Federal Government Academy, Suleja;
Other options include the Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (internal) and the Senior Secondary School Certificate (external) for private applicants. These tests are meant to help students who haven’t been able to earn the credits needed to be admitted to postsecondary institutions make up the credits they need.
We administer these kinds of tests in a way that allows anyone to apply, and we have centers that are specifically chosen so that candidates can select the one that is closest to their place of residence.
“Any police family can fit into the examination category,” he stated.
According to Wushishi, the board would dispatch its personnel to the areas where the Lagos State Command desired the establishment of its centers.

“We’ll dispatch our men to inspect some of the establishments that need to be approved by such centers.
“With God’s grace, we will accomplish that; it is crucial because the Nigeria Police serve the country and their kids need to be able to easily take exams to make up for the subjects they failed so they can continue their education.”
“The request is crucial for the country as well as for the cops and their kids.
“The country has a responsibility to make education easily accessible, and this is one way we can give police children who have completed senior secondary school access to their results.”
“We will send our men to access the area centers that the command wants us to approve for examination centers as soon as we receive the request from the police,” he stated.
He claims that the financial issue facing NECO is the provision of physical infrastructure, such as offices and other items that facilitate efficient office operations.
He expressed gratitude to the police for conducting physical security and security monitoring throughout its inspections.
“Our covered committee, the Examination Intelligence Committee, is involved in investigating examination violations and is working with law enforcement to successfully capture individuals engaging in examination malpractice,” he stated.
He asserts that Lagos is among the biggest states in terms of the quantity of candidates it produces.
After Kano State, Lagos produces the second-highest number of applicants for the internal Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination (SSCE).
Over 98,000 candidates from Lagos took the SSCE last year, with Kano coming in second with over 104,000.
“We have been working together with Nigeria Police for a very long time. Through increased security and surveillance, the police have been helping NECO carry out examinations in a non-violent manner.
“We conduct examinations in many locations in Lagos, and the police have been working with us,” he stated.
He wished the new CP success and congratulated him on his new position.
Police and NECO will continue to work together, according to CP Jimoh.
“Lagos Police and NECO have been working together and will keep doing so. Exam security has been one of the police’s duties, and this partnership has been ongoing for years.
“We have been collaborating with NECO’s Intelligence Department to make sure that preparations for securing examination conduct during the pre-, examination-, and post-examination periods have been proceeding without a hitch.
“We are prepared to provide NECO with all the cooperation it deserves, and we will double our commitment to NECO and take it to a higher level,” he declared.
He claims that the six sites chosen for the construction of NECO centers are regions of need; three of the centers are on the island, while the other three are on the mainland. These sites are near populous areas with a high concentration of police families.
“We are confident that this will be implemented, and it will significantly improve the police force by giving children, wards, and families access to the centers near their residences,” he stated.
