ObasanjoFormer President Olusegun Obasanjo has asserted that Nigerians owe no one an apology for seeking international assistance to address the country’s worsening insecurity, stressing that human lives are being lost daily without regard for religion, ethnicity, or political affiliation.

Speaking at the Plateau Unity Christmas Carols and Praise Festival in Jos, Obasanjo urged the Federal Government to urgently adopt modern technology to halt recurring killings.

He noted that with advanced security tools, no criminal should be out of reach.

“In these days of technology, there should be nobody who can hide after committing a crime,” he said.

“Before I left government, we had the capacity to pick up anybody in Nigeria once identified. Every Nigerian life matters, Christian, Muslim or pagan. Nigerians are being killed; this must stop.”

The former President maintained that Nigerians have the right to pursue international partnerships when internal efforts prove inadequate, stressing that protecting lives must remain the nation’s foremost priority.

Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, also spoke at the event, expressing confidence that Nigeria would triumph over its current challenges.

“By the grace of God, those who want Nigeria destroyed will not succeed,” he said, praying that leaders be granted the strength and wisdom to steer the country rightly.

Mutfwang explained that the annual carol service was conceived as a platform to foster unity across the state through worship and thanksgiving.

He welcomed dignitaries including Obasanjo; General Lawrence Onoja (rtd.); former Governors Joshua Dariye and Jonah Jang, accompanied by his wife Ngo Talatu; former Women Affairs Minister, Dame Pauline Tallen; former Adamawa State Governor, Boni Haruna; former Chief of Defence Staff, General Martin Luther Agwai (rtd.); and the GOC 3 Division, Major General Folorunsho Oyinlola, among others.

Celebrating the diverse gathering, the governor said Plateau people had set aside denominational lines to worship together. “With unity, we will shut the door against the enemy that troubles us,” he added.

The festival featured performances by renowned gospel artistes, including Buchi, Uche Etiaba, Pastor Chingtok, and choirs from various denominations.
