Ondo Police Arrest Landlady for Allegedly Poisoning Tenant’s Three-Year-Old Son

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 40-year-old woman, Nafisat Lateef, for allegedly poisoning the three-year-old son of her tenant in Omifon, Odigbo Local Government Area of the state.

Police said the incident followed an argument between the suspect and the child’s mother, identified as Rofiat.

Lateef, who is the landlady of the victim’s family, was alleged to have given the child a liquid substance suspected to be poisonous.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday.

He said the incident occurred on Tuesday, February 4, 2026, at about 8:30 a.m., when the suspect allegedly administered the substance to the child, identified as Abdulrasheed.

“Shortly after consuming the substance, the child began vomiting and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where he received prompt medical attention,” Jimoh said.

He added that police detectives launched a swift, intelligence-led operation that led to the arrest of the suspect. During the investigation, the liquid substance suspected to be poison was recovered.

Jimoh stated that the suspect is currently in police custody and has made useful statements, adding that investigations are ongoing.
