Osun State Governor, Ademola Nurudeen Adeleke, on Wednesday secured the Accord Party’s governorship ticket for the August 8, 2026 election.

Adeleke, who was the sole aspirant in the primary held in Osogbo, scored 145 votes out of 150 cast by accredited delegates from the 30 local government areas. Five votes were declared invalid.

Announcing the results, Secretary of the Electoral Committee, Abdulazeez Salaudeen, commended the smooth conduct of the exercise.

“The committee has delivered on its mandate. After voting and counting, witnessed by agents of the candidate and officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC).

Abdulazeez Salaudeen hereby declare Senator Nurudeen Ademola Adeleke as the winner of the primary,”

The event, monitored by INEC officials, was held under tight security with the presence of armed police personnel and operatives of the Department of State Services. Governor Adeleke, Deputy Governor Kola Adewusi, and several appointees were in attendance.

Absent, however, were key PDP leaders in the state, including the party chairman, Sunday Bisi; the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Wale Egbedun; PDP members of the National Assembly; and several state lawmakers.

Accord Party’s national leadership, led by its chairman, Maxwell Mgbudem, was present to supervise the exercise. In his acceptance speech shortly after being declared winner,

Adeleke’s emergence followed his formal defection to the Accord Party on Tuesday, where he confirmed he had joined the party on November 6 after “intensive consultations with stakeholders and opinion leaders.” He described Accord as a platform whose philosophy of welfarism aligns with his administration’s focus on citizens’ and workers’ welfare.

Governor Adeleke expressed deep gratitude and described his emergence as the will of God.

“I wholeheartedly accept this nomination as the Accord Party candidate for the 2026 governorship election. I give glory to God Almighty for His grace and for guiding this process. I thank our delegates, party leaders, and supporters across Osun State for the confidence they have shown in me.”

Adeleke said his decision to run again was driven by his commitment to consolidating the progress recorded in the past three years.

“This mandate you have renewed today is a call to continue the work we started—work focused on welfare, development, and good governance. By the grace of God, we have delivered in infrastructure, education, health, workers’ welfare, and digital reforms. And we are ready to do even more.”

He also highlighted key achievements of his administration:

  • Infrastructure Revitalisation: Rehabilitation of major township and rural roads, bridge reconstruction, dualisation projects, and expansion of street lighting across Osun.
  • Education Upgrades: Renovation of public schools, construction of model schools, improved teacher welfare, and recruitment drives.
  • Healthcare Improvements: Revamping of primary healthcare centres, better medical equipment, and expanded community health outreach.
  • Workers’ Welfare: Clearing inherited salary/pension arrears, sustaining timely payments, introducing new welfare incentives, and promoting civil servants.
  • Digital and Economic Reforms: ICT innovation programmes for youth, SME support, and improved transparency in public finance.
  • Water, Rural, and Sports Development: Rehabilitation of water schemes, electrification projects, and revival of sports facilities and grassroots programmes.

Adeleke reaffirmed his commitment to citizen-focused governance.

“This second-term bid is not about me; it is about the future of Osun State. I am committed to sustaining a government that prioritises the people and delivers real democratic dividends.
