The Minister of Marine and Blue Economy and a prominent leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State, Adegboyega Oyetola, has intensified political consultations with party leaders and stakeholders as preparations begin for the state’s 2026 governorship election.
The strategic engagements were held at Oyetola’s country residence in Iragbiji, located in Boripe Local Government Area of Osun State. The consultations attracted key figures within the party, including elders, current and former members of the National Assembly, past members of the Osun State House of Assembly, support groups, and influential party stakeholders from across the state.
According to a statement released on Tuesday by Oyetola’s Special Adviser, Bolaji Akinola, the meetings were designed to strengthen party unity and enhance grassroots mobilisation ahead of the August 15, 2026, governorship election in Osun State.
Participants at the gathering reaffirmed their commitment to the party’s progress and pledged to work collectively to ensure the APC regains political leadership in the state. The consultations also served as a platform for discussions on strategies aimed at consolidating support across communities and strengthening internal cooperation within the party structure.

Addressing the party leaders and stakeholders during the meeting, Oyetola emphasised the importance of unity and sustained engagement with grassroots supporters as the election season approaches.
He described the forthcoming governorship election as a decisive moment for the future of both the party and the state. According to him, strengthening internal harmony and intensifying mobilisation at the community level will be essential in achieving electoral success.
“The forthcoming election will be decisive and critical for the future of our party and the state. This is the time for unity, loyalty, and sustained engagement with the people at the grassroots,” Oyetola stated.
The former governor of Osun State also expressed strong confidence in the APC governorship candidate, Munirudeen Oyebamiji, whom he described as a capable and widely supported political figure within the state.
Oyetola noted that Oyebamiji possesses the leadership qualities required to provide purposeful governance, enhance accountability, and drive sustainable growth and development across Osun State. He urged party members to rally behind the candidate and work collectively toward achieving victory in the upcoming election.
In addition, the minister highlighted that preparations for the 2026 governorship contest should be aligned with the party’s broader strategy for the 2027 general elections. He stressed that maintaining unity among party members would remain the APC’s strongest political advantage.
Oyetola further commended party elders and loyal members for their consistent dedication to the party’s ideals and development. He encouraged them to continue promoting peace, cooperation, and political stability within their communities and local government areas.
Beyond the political consultations, the weekend in Iragbiji also featured two significant gatherings that drew large crowds from across the state and beyond.
On Friday, Oyetola hosted family members, associates, supporters, and party loyalists at special prayers commemorating the 15th anniversary of the passing of his mother, Alhaja Wulemot Oyetola.
The activities continued on Sunday with the Ileri Oluwa Annual Ramadan Lecture, an event hosted by the minister that attracted religious leaders, community figures, political associates, and residents from different parts of Osun State.
The combined events not only highlighted Oyetola’s political engagement but also reinforced his connections with community members, religious leaders, and grassroots supporters across the state as the countdown to the 2026 governorship election begins.
