In a fresh turn of events, controversial Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola Badmus, famously known as Portable, has been arrested by operatives of the Kwara State Police Command. The arrest, confirmed on Sunday by Police Public Relations Officer SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, stems from a petition involving serious allegations, including criminal defamation and threats to life.
The outspoken and often polarizing music star was picked up in Abeokuta, Ogun State, by officers dispatched from Kwara State. According to the police, the arrest followed due legal process, backed by a warrant issued by a Magistrate Court in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara State.

Petition Leads to Portable’s Arrest
The petition was filed by one Mr. Okunola Saheed, widely known in entertainment circles as Osupa. In the petition, Saheed alleged that Portable had engaged in multiple acts amounting to criminal misconduct. These included criminal defamation, threats to his life, incitement, character assassination, and the use of highly abusive language, all of which allegedly had the potential to disturb public peace.
Upon receipt of the complaint, the police commenced an investigation. In the course of reviewing the petition and accompanying evidence, the Kwara Police Command deemed the allegations weighty enough to seek a formal arrest warrant. This warrant was subsequently granted by the Magistrate Court sitting in Ilorin.
Acting swiftly, the command deployed officers to locate and apprehend the singer. Portable was arrested around 7:25 p.m. on Saturday, April 13, 2025, in Abeokuta. He was then transferred to Ilorin, where he is currently in custody.
Kwara Police Reaffirm Commitment to Justice
In her statement, SP Ejire-Adeyemi elaborated on the procedure followed during and after the arrest. She noted that Portable’s statement was taken in the presence of legal representatives from both sides, emphasizing that the process was conducted in accordance with the law.
She said:
“The Kwara State Police Command wishes to inform the general public that following a petition received from one Mr. Okunola Saheed, popularly known as ‘Osupa’, against Mr. Habeeb Okikiola Badmus, also known in the entertainment industry as ‘Portable’, Police detectives of Kwara Command have taken lawful steps in line with due process to investigate the allegations.”
She also stressed that further legal proceedings were underway, and arrangements were being finalized to present the suspect before a competent court of law without delay. The Command remains resolute in its mission to uphold justice while maintaining peace and public order.
Ejire-Adeyemi concluded by urging the public to remain calm and avoid the circulation of unverified information, assuring that further updates would be provided as the case develops.
Public Reactions and Industry Impact
Portable, known for his erratic behavior and frequent social media outbursts, has courted controversy throughout his career. This latest development adds to a growing list of run-ins with both fans and authorities. While his fan base appears divided over the arrest, many in the industry see it as a critical test of the justice system’s ability to address misconduct, regardless of celebrity status.
The unfolding legal battle could have significant implications for the singer’s career and public image. Whether this incident marks a turning point for Portable or further deepens his controversial legacy remains to be seen.
