Several young men have reportedly been arrested by the Kano State leadership of the Islamic Sharia police, also known as Hisbah, for allegedly not keeping the Ramadan fast on the first day of the holy month.
Dr. Mujahideen Abubakar, the Board’s Deputy Commander General, told reporters in the state that the detentions had been confirmed, according to the NEWSWORLD.
According to him, the people were arrested while on regular patrols conducted by Hisbah police in different parts of Kano city.

Furthermore, the board detained some 60 people for having “indecent haircuts,” which are against both local cultural norms and Islamic law.
Additionally, a number of commercial tricycle (keke napep) drivers were arrested by Hisbah authorities for reportedly carrying both male and female passengers in their cars, a behavior that the board has deemed unacceptable.
The Board has committed to continuing its patrols during the month of Ramadan in order to guarantee strict adherence to Sharia law.
Prior to this, Katsina State’s government, led by Governor Dikko Umar Radda, said that all of the state’s schools will be closed for the Ramadan fast.
According to news accounts, the declaration had an impact on every primary, intermediate, and university institution in the state.
The Katsina Hisbah Board cautioned private schools in the state not to defy the government’s directive in a statement released on Thursday.
During the Ramadan fast, individual courses are prohibited, according to the commander-general of Hisbah.
All private schools must close during Ramadan in compliance with a mandate from the Katsina State Government so that students can follow the holy month to the fullest. Please put extra lessons in the instructions.
The Hisbah Board strongly advises all school owners to adhere to this rule. There will be no tolerance for non-compliance.
