A tanker carrying Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) exploded in Ibadan, killing its driver and injuring one other person. The General Manager of the Oyo State Fire Services Agency, Yemi Akinyinka, confirmed the tragic incident in a statement on Wednesday.

“The incident occurred at Fijabi House, Agbowo, Ojoo/Iwo Road Expressway,” he stated.At precisely 2.45 a.m., the agency received a distress call regarding the fire situation. “The service prevented the fire from spreading to the neighboring residential neighborhood by promptly deploying workers to the spot.”

We arrived to find three trucks involved in the fire event, spaced 20 meters apart.The motor boy was saved alive and brought to the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, for treatment, but the driver was burned to death.

Akinyinka stressed that the tanker was utterly destroyed by the fire while the agency’s personnel rescued the other two trucks. “The agency’s Director of Operations, Mr Ismail Adeleke with team members, the police, and some other security agencies were at the scene to prevent a breakdown of law and order,” he said.
